The South Africa Cricket Academy proudly celebrates another standout achievement from one of its distinguished alumni, Matthew Gouws. Matthew’s latest milestone exemplifies the standard of leadership, discipline, and ambition that we strive to instill in every athlete who walks through our doors.
At just 17 years old, the Richards Bay–born golfer has been appointed captain of the U19 KwaZulu-Natal interprovincial golf team, a significant leadership role that reflects both his on-course skill and his maturity off it.
A Grade 12 learner at Kearsney College and former pupil of Grantleigh, Matthew is the son of Lourens and Jeanine Gouws, who have been instrumental in supporting his rise through the golfing ranks.

National Stage Awaits
Matthew will lead KwaZulu-Natal at the upcoming SA U19 Interprovincial Tournament, scheduled for 15–19 December at Polokwane Golf Club in Limpopo. His appointment as captain underscores the trust placed in him by provincial leadership and the broader golfing community.
Colin Burger, golf operations administrator at KZN Golf Union, commended Matthew’s dedication, noting that his commitment and work ethic clearly set him apart. He expressed full confidence in Matthew’s ability to guide his team and elevate collective performance.
