South Africa Cricket Academy Alumnus Matthew Gouws Earns U19 KZN Captaincy

The South Africa Cricket Academy proudly celebrates another standout achievement from one of its distinguished alumni, Matthew Gouws. Our philosophy is rooted in honouring every step of an athlete’s journey, from early potential to professional excellence. Matthew’s latest milestone exemplifies the standard of leadership, discipline, and ambition that we strive to instill in every athlete who walks through our doors.

At just 17 years old, the Richards Bay–born golfer has been appointed captain of the U19 KwaZulu-Natal interprovincial golf team, a significant leadership role that reflects both his on-course skill and his maturity off it.

A Grade 12 learner at Kearsney College and former pupil of Grantleigh, Matthew is the son of Lourens and Jeanine Gouws, who have been instrumental in supporting his rise through the golfing ranks.

Career Highlights and Achievements

* Junior ambassador for Zimbali Country Club
* Key member of the Zimbali team that won the KZN Premier League for the first time this year
* Four-time defending champion of Richards Bay Country Club
* U19 KZN Schools golf representative since 2022
* Selected for the U19 SA Schools team in 2024
* Member of the U19 KZN Interprovincial squad since 2023

These achievements reflect the consistency, discipline, and competitive resilience that have become hallmarks of Matthew’s game.

National Stage Awaits

Matthew will lead KwaZulu-Natal at the upcoming SA U19 Interprovincial Tournament, scheduled for 15–19 December at Polokwane Golf Club in Limpopo. His appointment as captain underscores the trust placed in him by provincial leadership and the broader golfing community.

Colin Burger, golf operations administrator at KZN Golf Union, commended Matthew’s dedication, noting that his commitment and work ethic clearly set him apart. He expressed full confidence in Matthew’s ability to guide his team and elevate collective performance.
