Shiraz’s cricket journey began long before most children could even hold a bat properly. As a toddler, he earned his “selection” into the Academy purely because his older brother was already in the team. Too small to field anywhere near the action, he was placed at the safest spot on the field, backstop on the boundary. On many afternoons, he was far more interested in the grass, the leaves, and the joy of simply being outside than in the game unfolding in front of him. That innocent beginning was the foundation of what would become a remarkable cricketing trajectory.
Fast-forward to today, and Shiraz is no longer the baby on the boundary, he is now one of the standout performers at Clifton School, where his achievements continue to inspire proud memories at the Academy.
Recently, Shiraz reached a major career milestone when he received his 100th cap for Clifton College during their SA20 Competition semi-final clash against Northwood. In addition, Shiraz, now in Grade 11, shattered his own previous record for the most wickets in a season for the 1st XI, finishing the year with an extraordinary 95 wickets to his name.
His consistency, discipline, and cricketing intellect have earned him a deserved selection into the KZN U19 team that will compete at the prestigious Khay Majola Cricket Week in Bloemfontein later this month. This recognition affirms not only his talent but also his relentless work ethic and his maturity as a developing athlete.
As we celebrate Shiraz’s ongoing success, we also look ahead with anticipation to another major stage where he will be in action: the 2026 Clifton T20 Tournament, taking place from 13–15 February.
With live TV broadcast, 12 of South Africa’s top cricket schools, and schoolboy cricket at its highest standard, this tournament promises to be a showcase of excellence, and Shiraz is poised to be one of the standout players to watch.
His journey reminds us that greatness often begins in the most unexpected ways, sometimes even with a little boy sitting on the boundary picking leaves. Today, he stands as a testament to what passion, perseverance, and proper development can achieve.
We salute you, Shiraz Perumal. The Academy, Clifton School, and the South African cricket community are immensely proud of your achievements, and the story is only just beginning.
